Hooray for Ms.Stewart! After training 5 days a week and almost a year for the Nikes' Women Marathon on October 19 2008, she signed up for Team and Training for the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma. When starting the run, the steep streets of San Francisco were fully packed with exactly 20 000 people being men and women all participating for this cause. "The scenery was beautiful" says Ms.Stewart. Because of the conditions of the roads, it made it very difficult for her to get to the top of it. After running 15 km, she wanted to stop due to stomach cramps. However, as she was struggling to run, she thought about those who are in greater pain then she is in. Also, she thought the students here at Laurier MacDonald who encouraged her greatly to make a difference in the world, and to see the beauty of life. "I am blessed to have the opportunity and ability to run a whole marathon for a good cause" says Ms.Stewart. Fortunately, these thoughts kept her running until the very end of the marathon.
With tears in her victorious eyes being the 461st person out of 4900 people left finishing the marathon , 375th out of 4535 women running 42,2k and raising 6700 dollars, Ms.Stewart felt that finishing something so grand and beautiful is magical. She learned that one person really can make a huge impact on a cause. She encourages people to "Be the change you want to see in the world". " It was the best experience of my life, it is certainly not the only time I am going to run a marathon, I will be doing this again and again!".
